Sean & Angela

Sean Morgan’s story is typical of many families.  After a row, he walked out vowing never to return. That was 11 years ago and tempers have cooled on all sides. For his mother, Mrs Angela Chesson, the disappearance of her only son soon became an increasing heartache as the years went by. She tried writing to an address where he used to live in London but her letters went unanswered.

“I just had no idea where he was,” she says.

“I wasn’t too worried in the early days because I was convinced he would phone me.  But I heard nothing.”

Two years ago Mrs Chesson had a heart-attack and as she recovered she vowed it was time to make a big effort to find Sean.

“I realized that if I died he might never know.  Who would know where he was to give him the news?” she said.

But looking for Sean seemed an unsurmountable problem for her – “I just didn’t know where or how to start.”

Luckily, she shared her problem with some friends at her church and they helped her. A search of the internet proved fruitless, but then the searchers spotted the website of Missing People, Britain’s biggest charity dedicated solely to looking for missing people. “I got in touch and you were amazing – you found Sean in three weeks.  I couldn’t believe it,” she said.

For his part, Sean, now 45 and living with a family of his own, was delighted when he got the news his mother was looking for him.

After Missing People passed on her contact details, he rang her straightaway. And the first piece of news he told her was that she had a nine-year-old grand-daughter she knew nothing about.

Mrs Chesson, who also has a daughter living in Majorca, added:”I was delighted to learn as well that he was still with his partner.”

Within a month mother and son met up again. It was an emotional re-union.  “I felt physically sick the day he came,” she said.  “But I’m glad to say it went better than I thought it would.  He’s changed hugely in so many ways.

“He said his partner had been urging him for ages to contact me again but he was too embarrassed after what had happened and the trouble he had caused.

“I think we will work harder at staying in contact now.”
