Charity Urges Claudia Lawrence to Make Contact

On Friday 19 June 2009, Missing People will join the father of missing Claudia Lawrence in London to appeal for her to contact the charity directly, on the three month anniversary of her disappearance.

The press briefing will be hosted by Claudia’s father Peter Lawrence and his friend and spokesman Martin Dales. It is first that they have organised in central London.

Missing People’s Director of Services Jo Youle, will raise awareness of the services available for the 210,000 people who are reported missing each year and their families, focussing on the charity’s freefone Message Home service (0800 700 740).

Missing People provides this 24 hour service to enable missing adults such as Claudia and the estimated 70,000 adults who are reported missing each year to regain contact with their families. Recently-released figures from the charity reveal that the line received over 32,000 calls in 2007-8.

Jo said: “Missing is a big issue. Last year Message Home took over 32,000 calls, 30 to 40 per cent of which were from women.

“If, like so many others, Claudia feels unable to make direct contact with the people she has left behind, the charity Missing People can help by forwarding a message on her behalf to her family. We will only pass on this message and no other information. Calls to the service cannot be traced.”

Missing People provides support for missing children, vulnerable adults and families left in limbo. We offer families of the missing specialist advice and practical support as well as searching - securing publicity that could end years of heartache.
