London River Charity Film Premiere in Aid of Missing People

To mark the fifth anniversary of the July 7 bomb attacks in London, actress Brenda Blethyn will host the charity premiere of the film “London River” in aid of Missing People at the Cine Lumiere, South Kensington.

Set against the backdrop of the 7/7 atrocities, London River tells the story of a friendship which develops between two seemingly unconnected people, Elizabeth (Brenda Blethyn) and Ousmane (Sotigui Kouyate), as they travel to London to search for their children who are missing in the aftermath of the bombings. The critically acclaimed film is directed by Rachid Bouchareb (Days of Glory, Outside the Law) and Derek Malcolm in the Evening Standard called it “a film no Londoner should miss: humane [and] stunningly acted.”

Although the two characters come from different backgrounds - Ousmane is an African Muslim living in France and Elizabeth is a white Christian living in Guernsey - they share the same hope of finding their children alive. Putting aside their cultural differences, they give each other the strength to continue the search and maintain their faith in humanity.

Alastair Stewart OBE said on behalf of Missing People:

“London River is a thoughtful, moving piece of cinema which pulls back the veil on the issue of missing people. A superbly acted and directed drama, London River explores the process of searching for and coping with a missing loved one, underscoring the importance of the charity Missing People, which acts as a lifeline to the more than 250,000 people who disappear each year.”

Missing People offers help to the 250,000 people who run away and go missing every year. For those left behind, the charity helps search and provides specialised support to end the heartache and confusion. Missing People is an independent charity, funded by donations. Sadly one in four desperate calls for help cannot currently be answered. To find out how you can help, visit http://www.missingpeople.org.uk/donate.
