confidentiality policy
Please be aware that Runaway Helpline is a confidential service and the team can’t trace your calls, texts or emails.
Many young people who make contact with us are in difficult situations and may be at risk of serious harm.
We always work with you, to try and get you the help that you need. That’s what we’re here for. We will give you time to talk through your situation; explain the options that are available to you and then discuss what help you would like us to give to you.
If you decide not to let us help you and we believe you are at risk of serious harm, then we may need to let someone know. However, we would only be able to do this if you had given us your contact details or a location.
If at all possible, we will always tell you that we are going to share anything you’ve told us with someone outside of Runaway Helpline.
The Runaway Helpline team may consider you to be at risk of serious harm if you are missing from home and are on the street for example or if your situation seems dangerous enough to be life-threatening but not immediate, for example if you're being seriously neglected by a parent or carer, or seriously physically harmed so that your life might be in danger
If you have any concerns about confidentiality, just ask the Helpline Worker at the beginning of your contact with us. Please remember that our policy applies to contacts via phone, email and text.
