Volunteer with Missing People

“I would tell anyone thinking about volunteering for Missing People that it is the most rewarding thing I have ever done. You really feel like you are making a difference. The training, support and  encouragement the charity offers all their volunteers is brilliant. I cannot speak highly enough about this amazing charity!”

Choosing to volunteer is a big decision. You're giving away your free time so you have to be sure that the role you're interested in, and the charity itself, is right for you. If there's anything we haven't covered in our FAQs, our Volunteering Team is always happy to chat things through.

I'm interested, but I'm not sure if volunteering is right for me?

We welcome a huge range of volunteers from different ages, experiences and interests. After you apply, we'll invite you in for a chat which will give us a chance to explore your skills and interest in the role, and you a chance to ask us lots of questions. It's as much about your decision as it is ours. Our training and ongoing support then helps ensure that you feel confident in your role and comfortable to raise any concerns or worries.

How much time would I need to commit?

It depends on how much time you'd like to give. We often have a variety of roles available, some of which ask for a weekly commitment while others can fit around your diary whenever you're free. Our roles vary in how much time is required and this will always be included in the information listed in Current Volunteer Opportunities.

I've been missing or know someone who has, can I still volunteer?

We think it's fantastic if someone who has been effected by the issue we care so much about wants to be a part of helping others in a similar situation. When we receive your application, we'll get in touch to chat things through. We want to make sure you'd be happy and confident in your role, as well as having the right support from us.

Do you cover expenses like travel and food?

As a volunteer you give the gift of your time so we certainly wouldn't expect you to go out of pocket for that. We reimburse all reasonable travel expenses up to £15 each time you volunteer. If you're supporting at any one time for over four hours, we'll also reimburse up to £5 for your lunch.
