How Missing People can help

A lifeline when someone disappears

If someone you know is missing, we're here for you, as long as it takes.

We know that it can be difficult for families with missing loved ones to find someone to talk to who understands their unique experience. Sometimes it can feel like other people seem to stop caring or don't know what to say. We will never stop caring.

Our caring and highly trained team can offer you and your family a range of free, confidential and non-judgemental support.

Notes

We recognise that many people are affected when someone goes missing, and we support both the families and friends of missing people. Where the word ‘family’ is used on this website or at any time to describe the charity’s services, this also includes friends and loved ones.

Search Dog Heroes is a national initiative launched by Missing People, in partnership with Lowland Rescue, and funded by People's Postcode Lottery Dream Fund.

The Search Dog Heroes project will deliver awareness to thousands of families nationally whose loved-ones are living with dementia, learning disabilities or mental health problems; all of which are linked with high risk disappearances, by delivering educational tools to advise on how to prevent disappearances and how to prepare for them. This includes how to capture a person’s scent and safely store it in case the worse happens, through a designed scent toolkit.

As part of the 2 year funded project, 100 new search dogs and handlers will be trained and deployed, many of the dogs being ground-scenting who can drastically reduce search areas and quickly find a missing person using articles of scent. The project will ensure an improved national response to high risk missing persons by working with agencies involved in responding to a disappearance to work better together to improve referral process, response rates and awareness.
