The UK's leading retail service provider Timpson, is partnering with Missing People to help save the lives of high risk missing children by promoting the Child Rescue Alert service.  Child Rescue Alert is the nationwide system run in partnership by Missing People, National Crime Agency and technology company Groupcall, is designed to alert the public as quickly as possible to the disappearance of a child thought to be at high risk of coming to harm.

Statistics show that the initial hours after a high risk child goes missing are crucial, and a sighting by a member of the public can lead to the safe recovery of the child.

When a Child Rescue Alert is issued, it is sent directly to thousands of people in the local area via text, email, app notifications, social media, digital billboards and national media. This means that many more eyes and ears are on the ground, on the lookout for the missing child.

The campaign will see Timpson encourage over 5,000 employees, and millions of customers nationwide, to register and receive an Alert when a child goes missing from their local area and is thought to be in danger of serious harm. Staff members will also be able to fundraise for Missing People, the UK’s only national charity offering a lifeline when someone disappears. Twenty five years after the Charity’s founding, Missing People continues to offer support 24/7, 365 days a year to the estimated 1 million people affected by a disappearance every year.

Missing People charity patron Stephen Fry said: “I believe that Child Rescue Alert should be a national institution – something for everyone to find out about and sign up to. It reminds me of a fire extinguisher – everyone should have one ready to use at a moment’s notice but we all hope that we will never need it.”

James Timpson, CEO, said: "We are delighted to be able to offer our branches as a place to raise awareness of the Child Rescue Alert. With the support of our amazing colleagues and customers we will be able to help in the safe recovery of a child who is in danger, at the most crucial time."

Amy Sweeting, Head of Major Gifts at Missing People, said: "We are thrilled to partner with Timpson who are working with Missing People to raise awareness of the Child Rescue Alert. The more people who register to receive Alerts the better the chances are that a vulnerable missing child can be found safe and re-united with their family."

If you would like to register to receive Alerts straight to your mobile, you can text HERO and your postcode to 85080, or complete the short online registration form on the Child Rescue Alert website. Texting HERO costs your standard network rate. Alerts cost nothing for you to receive.
