Join our multi-agency virtual training webinar on ‘Return Home Interview Training: Supporting children on return’ for voluntary sector professionals, local authority practitioners and police representatives on Tuesday 12th October from 11am –1:30pm.
This short session introduces the process of delivering return home interviews to children missing from home and residential care based on statutory guidance in England, Scotland, and Wales.
The training has been designed to grow participants understand of missing and why young people/ children run away as well as build on existing communication and inter-personal skills to effectively work with and engage young people.
The training will also highlight effective follow-up pathways including contextual responses, family support and on-going prevention including safety planning.
Return Home Interview (also known as Return Discussion or Return Debriefs) are a requirement across England, Scotland and Wales. Each country has their own guidance –

A Return Home Interview provides an opportunity for a person to be listened to – to understand why they went missing, what happened whilst they were away, including exploring whether they have come to any harm, and discuss what needs to be put in place to prevent them from going missing again.
A Return Home Interview is a fundamental opportunity to engage with a person who may not previously have come into contact with any other professional support – there is no threshold for a Return Home Interview. Therefore, it is a fundamental opportunity to identify any previously unknown risk, harm, or exploitation that a child or young person for example, may have experienced, or currently be experiencing, and refer them to any additional support services that they may need.
