New website launch

After many months in the making, the team at Missing People are proud and excited to announce the launch of the new charity website to better serve people affected across the UK.

The site, developed with digital agency Pixeled Eggs, and made possible with the support of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists (WCIT) Charity, offers an improved online experience for people in crisis, and those who wish to support the charity.

Jo Youle Chief Executive, said:

“The world is visibly becoming more digital every day, and Covid-19 has accelerated this over the past few months. We want to make sure that, no matter what, everybody who is impacted by a disappearance can find the help and information they need, and fast.

Along with a whole host of new content, we hope that our digital offering will be simple and accessible for people trying to navigate the complex issues and circumstances around going missing.”

Along with a fresh new site, a new peer to peer space for families has been developed, specifically for people who have a missing loved one. This has been made possible thanks to the support of NEX Giving Day.

Jo said:

“The Family Room is a private space where people with shared experiences can support each other, and feel less alone. This is more important than ever, as Covid-19 has exacerbated the loneliness and isolation families can feel due to their situation.”

Throughout the project, the team were pleased to take a user-led approach. Research and testing was carried out with people with lived experience of missing, and an online group of family members with missing loved ones provided consultation and feedback at decision making points throughout.

Everyone at the charity would like to thank the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists’ (WCIT) Charity. Their members made a transformational investment in our digital future through their inaugural WCIT IT Charity Award in 2018, jointly made to Missing People and the charity CALM. Their support is also enabling us to pilot and scale up ChatBot support for some of the most vulnerable of children and young people affected.

Dr Stefan Fafinski, Chair of the WCIT Charity said:

“We’re delighted that our unique combination of funding and member expertise is an effective catalyst for this vital work. This will ensure that, through technology, Missing People can reach and help more people and their families affected by the devastating impact of going missing.”
