In March 2021, Missing People delivered a Covid-secure online training event to multi-agency professionals in Cambridgeshire. The event was funded by Cambridgeshire OPCC and focussed on improving the local response to missing children with the aim of reducing repeat missing episodes and lessen the chance of children and young people becoming a victim of crime. 89% of attendees rated their experience of the conference as ‘very good – excellent’.

Detective Chief Inspector Sherrie Nash said:

“I have had the pleasure of working with Missing People now for a few years and this was the second event we have hosted collaboratively. This event focussed on recognised national best practice of early intervention and prevention to identify vulnerability and reduce missing episodes. The key to preventing harm in all missing person cases is to remain open minded, embed an investigative mindset throughout and use whole systems approaches. The speakers at the event really reinforced these messages to all the delegates by sharing their experiences and best practice. The over-riding theme of the day was “past, present and future” which in a few short words really emphasises how investing in understanding why someone has gone missing can have a real positive influence on their today and seek to create positive change for their tomorrow.

The feedback from the delegates really highlights the importance of ongoing, multi-agency training in such an important area across the safeguarding partnership. I am confident that the training will help frontline practitioners develop their understanding of investigating and supporting missing people and will also assist at strategic level in ensuring policy reflects the evidence base.

I am really grateful to Missing People for once again choosing to support Cambridgeshire Constabulary and extend my thanks again to the OPCC for their funding. I very much hope we can host other events in the future.”
