Last month, the Family Support team held a special ‘Voices of Missing’ event. It took place in central London and was dedicated to sharing the voices of those impacted by missing. It was an evening of the arts with musical and spoken word performances, including an appearance from the Missing People Choir.

These events mean so much to the families we support. The experience of missing can be incredibly difficult to describe, particularly to those who have never experienced it. But in this room, so many people understood this pain. This was a chance for them to feel heard.

At this event we spoke to Peter who shared why this event and the support from Missing People means so much to him.

Peter’s son Lee went missing in 1988 when he was just 15 years old. 38 years later, he still hasn’t come home.

Peter shares how much the charity have helped him over the years since Lee went missing. We have helped him with publicity and for years now he has been a member of the Missing People Choir. He shares how singing in the choir has been cathartic for him and others as they navigate this heart-breaking time. It’s a space for all of them to connect. Spaces that would not be possible without your help.

Missing People provide life-saving support that puts families first. Thousands of families are left behind every year when their loved one disappears. We want to be there when they feel like they have nowhere else to turn. With your help, we can be there. Every year during the festive season, Missing People’s charity community join together in solidarity to honour and remember those that are missing, as well as those who have sadly passed away.

This event exists to show support to those who have been directly impacted by missing and it is designed in partnership with them.

This conference is primarily aimed at families and friends who have experienced a loved one go missing.

This is an opportunity to hear from a range of professional speakers working in fields linked to missing, who families have told us they want to speak to and learn from.
