Events and Shoutouts

There's been some big events recently...

Where we've been spreading the word:

Pride

This year, we are planning to investigate the link between missing and LGBTQ+ issues.

Recently we attended multiple Pride events – we were in Bristol, Glasgow and Brighton. Being a part of these events meant that we could spread awareness about our upcoming work but more importantly, make sure people we know we are there for them. We are always here to support those who need us.

Over 45 volunteers signed up for the events, including LGBTIQ+ people with experience of missing. One volunteer said – “I’m so happy that you are giving me this opportunity to be a part of something that is important to me. I appreciate your help, thank you !!”

Family Day 2024

This year’s Family Day was held in June and took place in London. This event is a chance for those with lived experience of missing to come together in a safe space to meet others with missing loved ones. We encourage all those who have been personally affected by missing to come together.

Families took part in creative writing, counselling and a discussion about how to get the best from the police. Poems and artwork were displayed, created by families during a project led by a psychotherapist with lived experience of missing. The day ended with a ‘Walk and Sing’ through central London with the Missing People Choir.

Gabriella, our Publicity Admin Volunteer

During this year’s Volunteer’s Week (which took place from the 3rd – 9th June), we took this as a great opportunity to shine a light on one of our fantastic volunteers.

Our team chatted with Gabriella, our Publicity Admin Volunteer. She shared the work she does for the charity, why she volunteers, and what she enjoys about volunteering.

Jane Hunter

A big shoutout goes to one of our employees, Jane Hunter. Jane, who is our Head of Impact and Research, has been awarded a Churchill Fellowship.

This is given to ‘dedicated and dynamic individuals with a vision for change in their community or sector’ and we are incredibly proud that Jane has been recognised for her brilliant work. She will travel abroad to share UK best practice and learn about the response to missing people in other countries.
