Organise a Walk For event

Organising a walk in tribute to a family member or friend who has gone missing is a great way to raise awareness in the local community and to help find your missing loved person.

Plus, you can also raise vital funds for Missing People to ensure that we’re always here to help people affected by a disappearance.

What are the benefits?

Raising awareness of your missing appeal

It’s important to us that this walk is as much about getting your loved one’s appeal shared widely, as it is about raising funds. We can help you reach out to media, and guide you through the interview process if we receive any requests. We can also create a bespoke ‘Walk For’ poster and invitation flyers which feature your loved one’s appeal.

Helping Missing People support more families

Missing People is the only charity providing specialist support for the thousands of people affected each year by a disappearance. As a charity, we are completely reliant on donations to keep our services free and available for everyone who needs us. By raising funds through your walk, you help us provide emotional and practical support for even more families across the UK.

Where could I walk?

Organising the walk in your local area is a good way to raise awareness and get your community involved, but if you’d prefer not to host your Walk For where you live, you could consider one of the long-distance paths in the UK or perhaps one of these 20 amazing walks listed by The Guardian.

How far in advance should I plan my walk?

This will depend on what your ambitions are for the walk – how many people you invite and how far you’ll walk. If your walk is quite long, you might want to leave enough time to train, so that you are feeling physically ready. We recommend giving yourself at least a month to publicise your walk and ask for donations.

How many people can join my walk?

As many as you like! Your walk can be whatever you want it to be; small and intimate or a large group of friends, family and/or community members.

I don’t have a missing loved one, can I still organise a Walk For?

The ‘Walk For’ initiative was designed especially for friends and families with missing loved ones. When someone goes missing, it can be a rollercoaster of emotions. Organising a ‘Walk For’ is a great way to bring friends and family together to do something fun and meaningful.
