Recruitment & Social Media Volunteer – Missing People Choir

About the Missing People Choir

Every year, 170,000 children and adults go missing in the UK, impacting over a million people. Missing People is the only UK charity dedicated to supporting missing people, and their loved ones.

Formed in 2014, the Missing People Choir brings together those affected by a disappearance, using music to build connection, healing and hope. In 2017 the Choir reached the finals of Britain’s Got Talent, bringing two missing people home to safety thanks to the publicity the performances generated. We’re now looking for a passionate volunteer to help grow the Choir’s reach and impact through social media and recruitment.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Recruitment & Social Media Volunteer, you’ll play an important role in helping the Choir reach more people with a personal connection to missing, who may benefit from joining. Your tasks will include:

  • Creating and sharing engaging, empathetic content on the Choir’s Instagram and Facebook pages
  • Reaching out to charities and organisations across the UK whose members might be interested in joining
  • Promoting the Choir opportunity on platforms like DoIt.org, NextDoor, and Facebook community groups
  • Responding sensitively to enquiries from potential new members and passing their details to the Missing People team.

Location & Time Commitment

  • Location: Remote (UK-based). You’ll need access to a computer, tablet or laptop, and a reliable internet connection. There is also the option to attend occasional choir sessions and performances – travel expenses provided.
  • Time Commitment: 4 hours per fortnight, working flexibly, with occasional check-in meetings during working hours
  • Duration: This is a new role with an initial 6 month commitment, but if volunteers are interested there is the possibility to continue.

Is This Role Right for You?

You’d be a great fit for this opportunity if you:

  • Are confident using Instagram and Facebook to create thoughtful, engaging content (training and support provided)
  • Are passionate about the work of the Missing People Choir
  • Are empathetic, non-judgemental, and a good communicator
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality, handling sensitive information with care
  • Enjoy working independently and taking initiative, whilst staying connected with the Choir Team for support
  • Are happy to undergo a criminal record check (a criminal record does not necessarily exclude you from volunteering).

What You’ll Gain

  • A rewarding opportunity to learn more about the experiences of missing people and their loved ones, and to be part of the important work the Missing People Choir does
  • Experience in a national charity Peer Support and Marketing environment
  • Full training and ongoing support from a welcoming, friendly team including on specialist topics such as ‘Ambiguous Loss’
  • A chance to use your skills for an important cause
  • Optional social events, including Choir performances, seasonal Team Socials, and the Missing People annual conference.
