“Some days are light; the darkness that surrounds your head and heart are lifted, you stop questioning yourself ‘Why..? Where..? How much longer..? Are you still on this Earth..?’ There is no end to the empty space.”
Abuse, exploitation, mental health, debt. With so many reasons a person might choose or be forced to go missing, it isn’t surprising that around 1 million people are impacted by a disappearance every year. For the thousands of families left behind, it’s the not knowing that hurts the most.
“There is no end to trying to make sense of my son Sebastian‘s disappearance over 3 1/2 years ago. Seb being missing from our family feels like a never ending black tunnel of despair with only a candle called Hope to sustain us.”
Missing People is the only charity in the UK dedicated to supporting both the vulnerable people who go missing, and the loved ones left behind. Offering confidential support, advice, and a way to reach out to tell the world someone special is missing, we’re here to be a light in the dark, and help to find an end to the pain.
“The daily gut wrenching, broken-hearted grief of my son being missing is like no other grief I’ve ever experienced.”
"They said my 16 year old son “will be home by tea time.” Fast forward and it’s 24 years on and we are still waiting... Not knowing is the worst kind of torture."
We have launched a new email communication so that you can be aware of new missing person appeals and share them far and wide! We are also calling on all Heroes to be the eyes and ears for Missing People on the ground. Your sighting of a missing person could make a difference in a crucial time.
