Our emotional and practical support services and Helpline are available to you free of charge. Missing People does not currently provide a counselling service.
People have told us that talking to a trained counsellor, who understands the impacts and trauma of a missing experience, can be very helpful. For access to free counselling, please speak to your GP.
If you can afford private counselling, we encourage you to choose someone who you feel understands missing. The counsellors available via The Missing Piece have all worked at the charity and are skilled and knowledgeable.
Another resource to help you find a counsellor is the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy directory, which you can search according to speciality and location. Searching for counsellors who specialise in trauma can help identify someone who’s able to support with missing.
Selection of a counsellor is a very individual decision. Whether you engage with any of the providers mentioned, or source counselling in a different way, it’s important to get a feel for whether someone is a good fit for you.
