Steps you can take

There are some people you probably need to tell and you to make sure anyone who was helping search knows to stop. Here are some things to think about

Tell the police

If the person was reported missing, and they then home or make contact, make you speak to the police as soon as you can to let them know.

Remove publicity

It’s important that any publicity for the person is taken down. Make sure this has been done by the police and by us, and follow our guidance if you spot publicity that was done through other means.

Take things slowly

You will have lots of questions. It might be difficult for the person to talk about their experience. Go at their pace. There are specialist services that might be able to help them.
